greaux baton rouge
Greaux Baton Rouge is a community garden and urban food hub located within North Baton Rouge, Louisiana on the historic Plank Road Corridor. This project is guided by Build Baton Rouge’s “Plan for Equitable Development” and is designed to empower North Baton Rouge residents to participate in jobs and learn skills within urban agriculture. The public green roof community garden and the private greenhouse creates new jobs while making farming and greenspaces easily accessible. This site is within a food desert, and this project aims to produce and sustain healthy food systems within North Baton Rouge.
The design of the green roof hopes to facilitate community engagement with urban farms and provides a green space to improve the air quality and health of this community. The green roof structure is divided into terraces and is pedestrian centered as the Plank Road corridor has the highest numbers of households without vehicles. Ultimately, this project seeks to provide an engaging agricultural production site within an urban context.
